About Flight Envelope

Flight Envelope is dedicated to providing innovative tools and resources for flight instructors to enhance the instructional experience for both instructors and students. Our mission is to align with 21st-century learner needs and evolving flight training philosophies and technologies, ultimately making flight training safer and more enjoyable.

We provide consultation services for the development of flight training with a current educational perspective. We can consult on matters of instructional design for aviation, principals and methods of instruction (PMI) and teaching the 21st Century learner.

 

We will soon be offering a comprehensive Flight Instructor Toolkit, which includes downloadable guides for instructors for each lesson, complete flight guides, abbreviated flight sequences, and detailed guidance on effective communication during each flight.

 

We will also be able to consult on the implementation of the Flight Envelope system in flight schools.

​

We can provide expertise in PC-ATD and FTD flight sequence development.

​

We have access to a unique skillset of aviation and educational professionals including CFI's, Aeronautical Engineers, Test Pilots, ATPL Pilots, Masters of Education and Flight Simulator Program Developers.

Kristy How

Co-Founder

Kristy began flying at the age of 15 and has a variety of experience, including gliding, a Private Pilot License (PPL(A) with various endorsements, an RPC, and a US Pilot License (FAA). Alongside Lorraine, Kristy won the Victorian Bicentenary Air Race in 2003.

 

She worked as the Sub-Editor for Aviator magazine for three years and has also held administrative, operations, and marketing roles in a flying school.

 

Kristy holds a Master of Education with Distinction (Advanced Teaching Learning) from Curtin University. She possesses knowledge of current and leading-edge educational research and theory, allowing her to address educational professional issues from various research-informed perspectives.

 

Kristy offers professional consulting on innovation in educational and workplace settings, including Principals and Methods of Instruction (PMI). Kristy currently works as a technical writer and consultant with Edge Aviation, providing support for Engineering, Special Flight Permits, Certificates of Airworthiness, and Operations Manuals/Ex, along with other compliance administration tasks.

Lorraine MacGillivray

Lorraine MacGillivray

Co-Founder / CFI 

Lorraine started flying in her thirties and started a low capacity airline,  helped run the flying school where she learnt to fly and became very active in the aviation industry. She and is highly regarded as being prepared to advocate for a better regulatory system and safer pilots.

​

​She worked for the Department of Defence in an Executive position at RAAF Base East Sale for 7 years, involved in contract management, quality systems, and support of the then RAAF training aircraft, the Pilatus PC9 and HS748.​

​

Lorraine started an RAAus Flight School and holds the position Chief Flying Instructor and has been engaged in flight training for 15 years.

​

TAFE Courses, University Units and random studies along the way have contributed to her knowledge base. Not to mention now 27 years experience in the aviation industry.

​

Lorraine owns and runs Edge Aviation with her husband Bob MacGillivray and provides niche market professional services to the industry. She is a CASA Authorised Person with has authority to issue Special Flight Permits and Certificates of Airworthiness.

​

Lorraine has a passion for training and refers to herself as the 'ever evolving instructor' and considers it an absolute privilege to teach people to fly.​​​​

Bob MacGillivray

Aeronautical Engineer / ATPL

Bob MacGillivray is a distinguished aeronautical engineer and test pilot. With over five decades of experience in the aviation industry, Bob has significantly contributed to various sectors, including search and rescue, air ambulance services, charter, and aircraft design and engineering.

​

Bob’s extensive career includes a tenure with the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA), where he was involved in critical safety operations. His expertise in aeronautical engineering has seen him engage in intricate aircraft design and flight test engineering projects.

 

Together with his wife, Lorraine, he operates Edge Aviation Australia, a CASA approved Part 21.M Design approval holder that provides a variety of services including Certificates of Airworthiness, Special Flight Permit issue, technical writing, accident investigation and aircraft ferry.

​

Throughout his career, Bob has earned a reputation for his exceptional skills and dedication to aviation safety and innovation. His work continues to impact the industry positively, maintaining high standards of operational excellence and safety.
